Personal Care Born from Personal Experience.

One night the unthinkable happened. I was watching a movie with my Dad when he discovered he couldn’t get up. My father suffered a stroke leaving him paralyzed, incontinent, and deeply depressed. For our family, this sudden event realized our greatest fears.

Despite my efforts to help him, he swatted me away. After much persistence, I discovered that he had wet himself. He looked up at me and said with eyes wet with tears, “I’m supposed to be taking care of you.” Through tears, I replied, “Dad, you took care of me my whole life. Now it’s my turn to take care of you.”

My story is not an uncommon one. Many families face the same sudden responsibility of caring for a parent. And this can often occur while they are juggling their own families and careers. This is why I started Beacon Home Care.

My family experienced a challenging period watching my grandmother’s health decline. She was once the matriarch of our family, and witnessing her gradual loss of independence was incredibly difficult and stressful for everyone…

The slow and frustrating nature of her decline placed a significant strain on our family dynamic, leading to numerous conflicts. While we all wanted the best for her, the combined responsibilities of being family caregivers, maintaining careers, and managing household duties became overwhelming.

During this time, we struggled to understand the available resources and, more importantly, how to access them. We often wondered what options existed when we couldn’t be present to provide care, especially when a full-time medication schedule couldn’t coexist with a full-time job, full-time studies, or full-time parenting.

This experience brought a sudden realization of the critical importance of home care, its related resources, and the need for advocacy and clear communication for families and individuals in similar situations. This deeply personal journey ultimately led me to my calling in senior care.
